Basketball

For more than 30 years members of the Athletic Center have faced off on the court for either a fun game of “open play” basketball during lunch and weekends or competitive “league play” in the summer and winter league tournaments. In 2013, the gymnasium was completely renovated.

Open League
The highest competitive level, the Open League is designed for the top 24 best players at the Club, athletes who have participated in a high level of organized basketball. Open league participants include those who have played professionally, collegiately, and with Fort Worth Club competitive teams locally and at the North American Association of Club Athletic Directors (NACAD) Basketball Tournament, hosted by peer private clubs across the U.S. The Open League is for those looking to continue to push their game and compete to the highest level. Four teams are drafted during each season of play.

A League
The A League is for those who played organized basketball competitively at various levels (high school, college) and continue to participate in frequent recreational play in leagues and Club open play. This league is for the skilled player desiring healthy competition in an organized league format. Four to six teams are drafted.

Golf Tournament
Held annually each spring and open to men and women, The Fort Worth Club Golf Tournament is limited to 20 teams and the top two teams represent the Club at the national NACAD golf tournament.

In 2015, members Mark Benson, Stewart Rowe and Rand Ravnaas represented the Club in Portland, Oregon at the NACAD golf tournament held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

"I really enjoyed the trip to Portland," says Rowe. "Pumpkin Ridge is one of the best golf courses in the country, so playing there was really special. The Multnomah Athletic Club is also one of the top athletic clubs in the country. The people who hosted the NACAD tournament were really well prepared and treated us like we were members of their club. It was a lot of fun and an honor to represent The Fort Worth Club. It was great to meet members from the other clubs, compete against them, and interact with them socially and on the golf course."

Rand Ravnaas agreed.

"It was a great course and the other people we played with from other clubs were very friendly," he says. "It was a great experience, being able to represent the Club in this golf tournament and I am very grateful The Fort Worth Club offers events like this. Hopefully I will be able to go again in the future."

Mark Benson says playing Pumpkin Ridge was an opportunity of a lifetime.

"We played the private side of Pumpkin Ridge, which was awesome," he says. "It's kind of a bucket list place to pay. It's where Tiger Woods won and the women's U.S. Open was there. The tournament was a great way to play a really nice golf course."
